Nintendo Cut 3DS price by $80!

Tej Kohli IT blog shares a happy news for the Nintendo fans. The company has slashed the price of its 3DS handheld by $80 in order to attract more buyers. Read the complete report at Tej Kohli blog:

Nintendo has reduced the price of their 3DS by $80 with an intent of sparking interest in the slow moving device. According to the announcement by the company, the price of 3DS dropped from $249.99 to $169.99 from 12 August onwards.

"For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a statement.

The company confesses that the hand-held has experienced a sluggish start since its launch in March. The slow 3DS sales and the imminent price cut helped propel a fall in year over year net sales at Nintendo.

Nintendo has sold more than 4.32 million 3DS devices since its launch in Japan in February. Of these, about 830,000 were bought in the US alone.

Besides the drop in prices, the company has announced to offer 20 free to download games to "anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11."

All those people will be enrolled for a 3DS Ambassadors program, permitting them to download 10 NES Virtual Console games including Super Mario Bros., the Legend of Zelda and many more, plus 10 Game Boy Advance titles at no cost. The NES games will be available September 1, and GBA games sometime later this year.

iPad Sucked 11% Share of the PC Market!

The IT passion blog by Tej Kohli is a place to find the latest news on Technology sector. In this post, Tej Kohli talks about how the new player iPad ate up the 11% share of the PC market.

From 7 percent market share in January, the iPad now stands at 11 percent.

The gadget was launched only a year ago, and during this quarter Apple sold about 9.25 million iPads which marks a 142% increase from the last year sales.

According to a recent research, the personal computer sales worldwide, excluding tablets were 844 million this quarter. This indicates a 2 percent growth from the last year.

If we look at it from another perspective, lets say that most iPads were sold to users, and that total computer sales are divided equally between consumers and businesses. Going by this, the iPad has already grabbed the 20 percent share of consumer PC market.

Looking at it from yet another perspective, if we put the biggest computer brands in a chronological order, the iPad comes fourth following HP, Dell, and Lenovo. It in fact comes before Acer, says Tej Kohli. Furthermore, if we add the Apple's 3.965 million Macs, it comes to a 13.2 million PCs which it sold, making the second largest computer vendor globally after HP.

The iPad entered the scene only about a year ago, but the PCs have been around since 1980s, with Microsoft's Windows dominating the most of them. During the early 1990s when the MACs were thrown in the market, things changed a little.

Microsoft reports its quarterly earnings on Thursday and expects it to be good this time. Office has been doing well for the last three quarters, and related business server software is also a strong point. But Windows sales reduced by 4% year over year last quarter, and nobody expects that trend to be reversed this quarter. Part of the Windows revenue decline is from strong year-ago numbers thanks to the release of Windows 7, and part of it is the decay of netbooks.

But on a serious note -- a new player just took 11% of what used to be the PC market. Microsoft's Windows monopoly, seems in danger.

Will You ever get your facebook Friends Inked on your skin?

More often than not, we have seen people getting inked for the love of family, spouse, and even god, but in the rarest of the rare events, a woman got her Facebook friends tattooed on her body. Read the entire news at Tej Kohli IT passion blog.

We all like our Facebook friends, but do we like them enough to have an ink needle cutting through our flesh a thousand times, over and over again, until their faces are permanently etched into our skin, wonders Tej Kohli.

No, right? But there are some exceptions who apparently loves them so much or perhaps, desperate for seeking the attention of online social circuit that goes along with doing something stupid related to Facebook, including naming the first born child “Like”, or more recently, getting a sleeve tattoo featuring the photos of her 152 Facebook friends.
A You Tube user named Suzyj87, recently uploaded a video showing the process of getting the photos of her Facebook friends inked on her arm.
You may be wondering whether Suzyj87 is close friends with those 152 people--or if those faces are just ones and zeroes on a Web site. On her YouTube page, Suzyj87 explains:
Now, you may be wondering whether all of those 152 faces were close friends with Suzyj87 or they are just other random facebook friends. Here's what she has to say to this.
"Of course I gave it a lot of thought. These are not all my friends. Just the people I care most about. I got their permission and they were very proud to be on it. To me it represents who I am right now and the time we live in. And of course I love the looks of it."
Fair enough! And there is no denying that the patchwork style of her tattoo looks pretty good.

Photo Sharing on Twitter by Next Week - Reports

Tej Kohli IT blog is the repository of technology news and updates.

Following the league of other social networking sites, micro blogging site Twitter could be planning to introduce its own photo upload and sharing service this week. Tej Kohli found many reports circulating on the web about the same.

According to various reports, the company's CEO, Dick Costolo, is expected to make the announcement at the D9 conference in California.

The service is expected to be based on, acquired by Twitter last July. It would compete with the likes of Twitpic, Instagram and Yfrog, and could be monetized by the means of advertising.

There's a strong chance, however, that the step could offend third party developers - already unhappy about the way Twitter has encroached on their space.

Back in March, platform lead Ryan Sarver warned third party developers off creating Twitter clients. He told the company's developer forum: "Developers ask us if they should build client apps that mimic or reproduce the mainstream Twitter consumer client experience. The answer is no."

But with rival photo sharing services having been around long before that announcement, any competing launch from Twitter itself is likely to leave the likes of Twitpic somewhat aggrieved.

Twitter says the reason for the crackdown is that it wants to give users a more consistent experience. Last week, the company announced that it had bought the leading third-party client Tweetdeck for a reported $40 million.

Google Moves to Fix Android Leak!

While browsing the web Tej Kohli found this story about a flaw in Google's Android apps. Read on the complete story which Tej Kohli has shared here...

Google is working on fixing an issue with Android phones that could have leaked users' personal data.

It follows a warning from German security researchers that more than 99% of handsets were potentially leaking information. The flaw meant hackers could have gained access to data within the phones' calendar and contacts applications.

Such issues are likely to become more frequent, warned security experts.

Google said in a statement: "We're starting to roll out a fix which addresses a potential security flaw that could, under certain circumstances, allow a third party access to data available in calendar and contacts.

"This fix requires no action from users and will roll out globally over the next few days."

The vulnerability affected the login credentials for some applications.

The ID token that allows people to access the service without the need to keep logging could be intercepted by criminals if they were sent over unsecured wireless networks.

With this token, criminals would be able to pose as the user and get at their personal information.

Security experts have praised Google's quick response to the issue but warned that the huge range of Android smartphones on the market leaves Android devices open to security issues.

"Whereas Apple can issue a single iOS update to patch iPhones and iPads, things aren't so simple for Google's users," said Graham Cluley, a senior consultant for security firm Sophos.

He said users should upgrade to the latest version of Android and avoid using open wi-fi networks.

"Using 3G may eat into your data plan, but it is far less likely that your communications are being snooped upon," he said.

Apple, iPhone Takes the Cake in New Guiness World Record Book

Tej Kohli IT passion blog brings you the latest developments in technology industry. After winning the hearts of millions of people worldwide, Apple and iPhone also scored big in the Guiness World Records.  Tej Kohli blog brings you the complete report.

A lot of mobile related items have found place in the Guinness World Records' new Gamer's Edition Book 2011. While Apple's iPhone 4 was named the fastest-selling portable gaming system, its App Store was declared the most popular application marketplace besides having had the largest launch line-up of a gaming system ever.

However, some non-apple favorites bagged a title as well such as Rovio's Angry Birds, which was listed for being the top-paid-for app in 'most nations'. TapTap Revenge was named the most popular iPhone game series and Plants vs.Zombies was named the fastest selling iPhone/iPod strategy game.

Tej Kohli says there certainly are many non-Apple or iPhone related items in the book, but for that you will have to buy a hard copy to fund out. Guinness has also launched a related Gamer's Edition Arcade App for iOS and Android that costs $0.99.

Angry Birds For Chrome

Tej Kohli IT blog is all about latest technology news and updates. Rovio, the make of popular game Angry Birds has bulit the special Chrome version of the game. Read the entire report on Tej Kohli blog.

Chrome users now get their version of angry birds. Rovio head, Peter Vesterbacka demonstrated the popular game played in Google Chrome browser at the Google I/O developer conference today.

The company is using the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) to develop the web-based application, which is hosted on the Google App. Engine. There is no cost for playing the game in Google's Chrome web Store in 'beta'.

Vesterbacka said Rovio like Chrome particularly for the browser based game version. Its tough to create Web apps with high-end graphics in a browser, says Tej Kohli, but chrome offers the environment that can handle it.

"We didn't want to compromise on performance," said Vesterbacka. "We haven't been able to bring this to the Web. It hasn't been possible until today. We are bringing Angry Birds to the biggest platform out there, the Web."

Rovio has created some exclusive levels available only for the Chrome browser besides including some Chrome-specific tidbits like Chrome rocks, flowers, and clouds.

Users who want to get access to the premium levels can do so by using the new in-app payments from Google. Vesterbacka expressed his happiness about the price point. Google is allowing developers to keep 95 percent of the sale price of their apps.

"We're all for lower taxes," he said. "And 5 percent is fair."

Angry Birds in Chrome joins other desktop implementations, including a paid version on OS X through Apple's Mac App Store, as well as on Windows Machines through the Intel AppUp store.

The Flexible PaperPhone, a Tej Kohli report

Tej Kohli shares another amazing news for the gadget lovers. Imagine a phone that can be folded like a paper and can be kept in stacks. Read the complete report at Tej Kohli blog.

As the world around us is shrinking continually, here's another addition to the list of tiny, sleek objects, but this one is seriously the mother of all gadgets – the PaperPhone, a flexible phone that can be controlled by being bent, written on or used as a touchscreen.

The device, which is built to find out how people use a flexible phone, is a joint innovation of researchers Queen's University in Kingston, Canada, Arizona State University, USA, researchers from the E-Ink Corporation.

“This is the future. Everything is going to look and feel like this within five years,” Roel Vertegaal, director of the human media lab at Queen’s, said. “This computer looks, feels and operates like a small sheet of interactive paper.”

This epaper, uses the same E-Ink technology used in the Amazon Kindle ereader. Tej Kohli is impressed with this phone, which is only a few millimeters thick, can make phone calls, read ebooks and even play music.

The researchers say that this technology could eventually mean the end of paper and printers. Dr Vertegaal said: “The paperless office is here. Everything can be stored digitally and you can place these computers on top of each other, just like a stack of paper.”

Game afficonados of the world rejoice! Nintendo has announced to reduce the price of its Wii gaming console to $149 and also include a Mario game in the bouquet.

Industry soothsayers were expecting this price slash for quite sometime now. Priced at $169 previously, the price cut came after Nintendo announced to launch a successor to the Wii in the coming year.

A lot of analysts believed Nintendo needed to do something to revive the console, which was the undisputed leader in gaming consoles for quite sometime, but has lost its demand for the past several months.

for the new price of $149. The range will feature the Mario Kart Wii and a Wii wheel accessory in the same color as console.

Sony may Compensate Users For Playstation Network Hacks

Tej Kohli brings a good news for the play-station users. Sony may give users some compensation for the disruption of the play station network and Qriocity online services, said the company's US unit. Read the complete report on Tej Kohli IT blog.

Both these networks were taken offline by Sony after it found out they had been hacked, and the personal information of its 77 million registered account holders had been stolen. The company also fears that the credit card numbers and other personal information could have been stolen too, but an ongoing investigation has revealed no evidence of that until now.

In the latest post on its Play Station blog, the company hinted towards offering compensation. Tej Kohli brings some excerpts:

"We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online," it said.

Users get access to the PlayStation network free of cost, so the compensation (if it comes) is not likely to be monetary. Some users do subscribe to the PlayStation Plus service, which allows them to play beta versions of the games and other perks for an annual fee.

The blog posting also said subscribers to Sony Online Entertainment's MMO (massively multi-player online) games "DC Universe Online" and "Free Realms" would also see something from the company.

"To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio," the blog said. "We are also working on a 'make good' plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms."

The latest blog posting didn't provide any updates as to the status of the PlayStation Network, the Qriocity service for consumer electronics devices, or an ongoing investigation into the hack.

It did say gamer trophies and game data files storied on Sony's servers will be available once the service is back online.

Yahoo Launches Google Instant Like Service, Search Direct

Tej Kohli IT blog brings you latest updates in the IT world. In a counter-attack to Google's Instant Search, Yahoo has come up with its own version of predictive search. Launched several months after Google Instant, Yahoo Search Direct will help searchers find answers (not just links) faster. Tej Kohli blog brings you the detailed report:

Yahoo unveiled Search Direct yesterday, a service that retrieves instant search results to compete with Google Instant predictive search technology.

Yahoo's new search feature will get users search results as they type characters in the search bar, even before they complete a query, hit the enter or visit a search results page, just like Google Instant does.

The objective is to shorten a few seconds from all search queries, enticing users to look up more and of course, see and click on more ads.

During the launch event, Yahoo officials touted the technique as a move to fetch users 'answers' rather than the typical blue links search engine customarily generate.

Right now the technology covers top trending searches, TV, movies, sports teams and players, weather, stocks, local, travel and shopping categories on Yahoo. Other features like popular music and local listings will also be added eventually. Presently in beta for American users only, the service will be available over the range of other Yahoo products and markets later in 2011 .

Direct Search shows the Yahoo's dedication to its users' search experience despite the fact that Bingo, Microsoft's search engine powers its search results under the 10-year contract signed August last year.

Yahoo takes 88 percent of Microsoft's search engine traffic ad sales to power its rival's search engine. However, Yahoo has complete control to experiment on the front end. Tej Kohli thinks that this new feature may help Yahoo reclaim its lost ground.

Google rolled out the real time, predictive search feature for internet users in September last year, which is an improved version of the Google suggest feature that guesses users' query as they begin to type it.

Early on, Instant appeared to boost Google's search market share, but the company has returned to its usual 65 percent search share range. Yahoo, meanwhile, is hovering around the 16 percent market and is losing share as Bing gains.

Zuckerberg's Facebook page hacked - Tej Kohli Report

Tej Kohli brings an interesting news from the web world. Accroding to recent new Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook fan page got hacked. Tej Kohli brings the entire report.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's fan page was hacked on Tuesday, a high profile invasion of privacy on a site that is often on the receiving end of public ire when it comes to the safety of people's private data.

The post that started as “Let the hacking begin” appeared on the Zuckerber's page right under his name. “If Facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn't Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a 'social business' the way Nobel Prize winner Muhammad Yunus described it?” the post further said.

There were more than 1800 likes on the message before it was removed from the page. Nobody is available to comment from the Facebook

However, Zuckerberg wasn't the only high profile person to have his Facebook page hacked. A hacker posted a message on French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wall on Sunday that stated the president would not run for re-election.

Sarkozy responded with a post saying no system is infallible.

While Facebook is staying silent on the hack, the company posted a blog entry Wednesday morning titled: "A Continued Commitment to Security." It draws attention to Data Privacy Day Friday. The day is an international effort by governments and businesses to draw attention to personal-data protection issues.
