Nintendo Cut 3DS price by $80!

Tej Kohli IT blog shares a happy news for the Nintendo fans. The company has slashed the price of its 3DS handheld by $80 in order to attract more buyers. Read the complete report at Tej Kohli blog:

Nintendo has reduced the price of their 3DS by $80 with an intent of sparking interest in the slow moving device. According to the announcement by the company, the price of 3DS dropped from $249.99 to $169.99 from 12 August onwards.

"For anyone who was on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS, this is a huge motivation to buy now," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a statement.

The company confesses that the hand-held has experienced a sluggish start since its launch in March. The slow 3DS sales and the imminent price cut helped propel a fall in year over year net sales at Nintendo.

Nintendo has sold more than 4.32 million 3DS devices since its launch in Japan in February. Of these, about 830,000 were bought in the US alone.

Besides the drop in prices, the company has announced to offer 20 free to download games to "anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11."

All those people will be enrolled for a 3DS Ambassadors program, permitting them to download 10 NES Virtual Console games including Super Mario Bros., the Legend of Zelda and many more, plus 10 Game Boy Advance titles at no cost. The NES games will be available September 1, and GBA games sometime later this year.
